Get Involved

Community Champions are individuals that are active within an ethnic minority community within their neighbourhood and want to promote the National Parks to their community while highlighting the needs of their community to the National Parks.

From 1 February 2012 we will not be recruiting any more Champions for England because the project is coming to an end. If you are interested in Mosaic you are still very welcome to get in touch with a Project Officer to discuss getting involved directly with the National Parks.

Who?

Mosaic is recruiting influential members of the community who have a growing passion for the National Parks, want to learn more about them and want to contribute to their future care and management as Community Champions.

What?

As a Community Champion we will provide training, support and a “Personal Development Plan” to suit your interests and needs. All Champions will receive training in organising a visit to a National Park and fundraising. Additional training might include map reading, giving presentations, leading walks or anything else we identify that will help you fulfil your role as a Champion. In exchange we will ask you to undertake some activity to promote the National Park, and help the National Park Authorities (NPAs) make changes that will help them reach out to your community. This could include organising group trips to the National Park, advising on publicity materials, mystery shopping in the National Park, representing Mosaic at events or getting involved in decision-making fora.

Why?

As a Community Champion, you will access many free opportunities that will be enjoyable and benefit you personally. You will join us for overnight “Group Leader Visits” in the stunning National Parks, where you will be able to enjoy a taste of activities on offer, meet like-minded Community Champions and get to know NPA staff – from rangers to Chief Executives. You will be able to access a range of high-quality training, and join us for urban events, cultural events and a weekend-long national annual event. Most importantly, you will help to make sure that your community has an opportunity to experience and enjoy the many benefits that National Parks offer.

“Mosaic gives me the skills and confidence to promote the Yorkshire Dales and help my community access the National Park.  Before we would not have been aware of what was available there in terms of facilities, let alone the sheer natural beauty and that it was a place for us all to enjoy.”

Nurjuhan Ali Arobi, Bradford, April 2008.
